A Bible Verse for My Children to Learn

Proverbs 30:17

"The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it."

When I was a kid, I would not swear EVER outside because I was afraid the dragonflies would come sew my mouth shut. This carried over to the inside, and I've never had a problem or temptation to swear.

So, when I read this verse, I wondered if it would have the same affect on my kids (hee hee). After having a very rough day with disobedience, tonight for a Bible reading, Daddy read this verse, and had a great talk about what it means to obey and disobey. All I will say, is my 5 1/2 year old's eyes were the size of saucers! I think this will be one of those verses we will memorize together!

Hi Jen - so TRUE with the scripture verse...now with Becca in school, she knows all the words, doesn't use them, she knows the consquences- but guard your kids as long as you can, I have...and will continue to do so. Keep posting. Liz

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.
