Trash or Treasure?

Does this (the metal bed frames) look like trash or treasure to you?

Well it was someone else's trash and has become our treasure! Our boys' beds are pretty bad (I will always be sorry for having you, Cindy and Diane, sleep on there - I slept on there one night when the boys were sick - shortly after your visit in November, and I was mortified! The boys don't mind too much, although Collin came to our bed in the middle of the night almost the entire fall and winter!), and they needed new beds. I have a great idea for headboards using what I already have, but we didn't have the metal frames nor box springs. The other day there was a Freecycle post giving away two twin metal frames. Thank you Lord! Now getting two box springs won't break our bank!

If you haven't heard about Freecycle yet, you have to check it out! My poor parents haven't had much luck with it, so it may not be best for everyone, but I've had nothing but positive experiences! To date, I've received an almost new (no rust, scratches, dents) 2 drawer filing cabinet. When I put out the request, I expected a bad one, thinking I'd try to paint it or leave it in the basement where no one would see. This one looks no different than a new one picked up at a store (except for a few dog hairs ;) ). I picked up a book I had been looking for in excellent shape (I think this book would be about $25 new). I picked up a brand new, in the package, foam doll-house bath set, and a few more things. Oh, I also picked up bags of fabric! Some of it went in the trash, but most of it was in WONDERFUL condition. Remember Maddie's Easter dress? That beautiful fabric was free! I also made a bunch of cloth grocery bags with the "ugly" fabric.

But its not all about getting, its mostly about giving. I've given about 10 bags of clothes, Collin's crib, 5 bags of toys, our old simple-set swimming pool, diapers and pull-ups, and more. The people that took these things needed them WAY more than we ever would. I'm thankful that I was able to help someone in need.

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.
