What Absolute (HILARIOUS) Craziness!

(Please excuse this post, I don't have the time. nor the desire, nor the energy, today to add pictures, or make sure the grammar is okay -
which I always try to do since my MOM was my English teacher {sheepish grin} ) - I hope I make her proud - not ashamed :)
And if you can keep up and make sense out of this story all the way to the end - you deserve a big pat on the back :)

Yesterday was one of those days that ended up so CRAZY that all you could do was laugh, otherwise you'd break out in tears :)

As I said in my other post, I suspected my 2 year old M was really sick. Let me first back up....
I had decided that I could do the doctor's appointment by myself with all four children. I always did it with three - why would a baby, who sleeps most of the day make it harder - oh, hardy, har, har ;) When I arrived at our WONDERFUL pediatrician I asked if they could listen to M. "Of course we will," they said.
Before they checked her out, they informed me that C (who was there for his 4 year old well visit) would need FOUR immunizations. "Uh, oh - he is so strong - there is a reason I call him 'my little beefcake'," I thought. "I will never be able to hold him down for FOUR shots!" My heart started palpitating as I panned the room looking at the four kids. The WONDERFUL nurses smiled and said they would help me pin him down. Thankfully he is a very healthy four year old boy. Okay, one down - two kids to go.
Because the baby was sleeping, they decided to let her be, and listen to M first. "Mom, good thing we're seeing her - she has pneumonia." I wasn't that surprised - she was pretty bad - but I still didn't want to hear that. "We're going to do a nebulizer treatment here." And without listening to the baby, who was sleeping away, she said "I suspect she's having trouble too and will need a nebulizer treatment."
Now, you know, how every doctor's office has signs all over the place saying "please turn your cell phone off,"? Well, as our SWEET doctor was talking to me, I was digging through my bag - half listening to her, I admit. I said, "I'm sorry, I need a minute to call my husband so he can come." We both chuckled.
Meanwhile, close your eyes (well don't, you need to keep reading) and imagine this scene for a minute:
  • My 6 year old (who ordinarily is the biggest help in the world) was just about equally as sick, and he was in his own little world, playing LOUDLY with the BABY toys in the room, not helping at all. I was getting so irritated that he wasn't listening to me - not even looking at me - only to find out after that his ears are all plugged up and he couldn't even hear me.
  • My 4 year old was talking excitedly over everyone IN HIS UNDERWEAR (because remember he had just had his well checkup, and didn't want to wear the cute tiger hospital gown). He was wishing he was sick enough to get medicine (oh, if only he knew about the 4 shots coming up - he got some medicine all right!). He was faking a cough and saying "look I'm sick too, look I'm sick too, look I'm......."

  • My 2 year old was screaming because she was petrified of something - I still don't know what.
  • And yes, the baby was just sleeping away, just as I suspected she would so that I would even have the idea to try this on my own at this point when she's only 4 weeks old! {deep breath after saying that run-on sentence!}

I managed to utter this to my husband on the phone - "you need to come NOW. M has pneumonia and the baby might too." Well, let's rewind 4 years ago, when our little boy C was five weeks old. We brought him to the ER in the middle of the night. They told us he had pneumonia, and that he might not make it through the night. We were transported to the city hospital - only for them to tell us he had a really bad cold. But as my husband was following me and the baby in the ambulance, he was just in tears thinking he was going to lose his son - meanwhile the EMT told me he was fine and that this was probably overkill.

Okay, fast forward back to yesterday. My husband is pretty panicky driving up to the pediatrician's office, because he's imagining a repeat of 4 years ago! As he is pulling into the office complex's parking lot, a police pulls him over! Yes, you read that right, he got pulled over!As the trooper was back in his car running my husband's information, my husband called me to say he was there, but pulled over in the parking lot. I said "WHAT!" Of course when I hung up, the nurse asked if everything was okay - I told her what happened. She goes running out of the exam room to tell my doctor, because dontcha know, my doctor's husband is a trooper. You know what our wonderful doctor did? SHE CALLED HER HUSBAND, WHO CALLED MY HUSBAND ON HIS CELL PHONE (who by the way has no idea this is going on). This is after my nurse goes running outside demanding the trooper let my husband go because he has FOUR children upstairs with pneumonia (she exaggerated) and his wife is all alone and needs him NOW! She told the trooper who pulled my husband over (are you keeping up with me here by the way?) that Trooper So-and-So would be calling right now on MY husband's cell phone and that the trooper who pulled my husband over needed to talk to him **RING** - my husband said the timing couldn't have been more perfect (but my husband is panicking wondering WHY is the nurse running out like this to get him? How bad is it up there anyway?) Well, I won't go into the other details, except to say the rookie trooper who had my husband pulled over refused to talk to my doctor's husband (the trooper) who, from what I understand, is a superior to him - and well, that got him upset, and as our doctor's appointment was going on, he was calling other superiors, etc., etc., etc.

Okay, let's go back inside - at this point, I said, let's wait until my husband was there to pin C down, because, yes, he's that strong - and, yes, my strong husband even had a hard time holding him down! Anyway, meanwhile they checked our baby - who has bronchilitis - basically walking pneumonia for babies. **Sigh** So, they did a nebulizer treatment for her and our 2 year old M.

Well, it doesn't end there. As this is all going on, my neighbor calls. What? She never calls me, and on my cell phone no less. My mind started going to awful places. I didn't answer it because I had already used up my favors I thought by now and didn't want to make the doctor wait for me yet another time. I was convinced our house had burned down. Convinced.

Anyway, the day ended up fine - with us eating hot dogs for dinner, because the dinner I had put in the crockpot (remember I said that yesterday) was burnt mush when I got home. **Sigh** Oh well, thankfully we had hot dogs and buns, and actually it really hit the spot :)

So, I'm here today, doing meds for the girls (which I have to hurry up and finish this because the baby is due for another nebulizer right now); keeping my super-helper boys company; and simply trying to ignore the giant mess in my house, knowing it will still be here tomorrow :)

Oh, by the way, my house obviously didn't burn down - my neighbor just wanted to know what doctor I used :) Little did she know where I was ;)

And oh, in case you're wondering, my husband got pulled over for an expired inspection sticker. So on top of all this yesterday, he managed to fit in getting the car inspected while I was waiting for the myriad of prescriptions for the girls.

Have a blessed day! As crazy as yesterday was (and the rest of this week will probably be) - we're able to see the many blessings from yesterday and yet again today- even if seeing those blessings is done with coffee cup in hand in toothpicks in both eyes {wink}.

For Grammie....

....because every time you see her, I happen not to have the beautiful clothes that you gave her on her! Here's some pictures for you (sorry they're blurry - they looked great on my camera!) They're proof that she does wear them, I promise! I will make sure that she wears some next time you see her - even if I have to run upstairs and change her!
It's hard to believe our baby is one month old already! It can't be so - but, yes, the calendar tells us its true. She continues to be a wonderful baby! Sadly, she already had her first cold, but I really expected it, being she was born in January. Actually all four of the kids have a cold. Thankfully Baby K is getting better quickly - not so with her big sister though! Today is Baby K's one month well check-up, and C's 4 year old check up. I will have the doctor listen to M while we're there as I suspect her cold has turned to bronchitis. O is also sick, but I don't think its settled into his chest (thank God since he has asthma!). Those inhaled steroids really prevent the asthma attacks, and prevent colds from settling in his chest. I was so hesitant to have him do these inhaled steroids - it feels like so much medicine - but did you know doing inhaled steroids two times a day, all year long, is less than taking oral steroids once a year (which he has done every year of his life but this one!) - so it convinced me, and every time he gets a cold and gets over it quickly, I am also convinced!
O had a wonderful report card, that smart boy! He reads well beyond his grade level, and his report card reflects that. His favorite books right now are the Magic Tree House series - his class went to see a theatre production of it last Friday - he had such fun! As I said before, he truly is a bookworm! But he also loves math - in fact, today he's home sick, and what is this boy doing? Math problems! He wants to learn multiplication, so he's working on that. Isn't that what you would do on your day off!?!? He loves to learn, and I'm really thankful for that.

Well, I have a bunch to do today. I always do this special cleaning after the kids are sick and on the mend - wash sheets, sanitize door knobs, light switches, remote controls, etc. - maybe if I did that more often when they're not sick, they wouldn't get sick so often? {shrugging shoulders}

On that note, I will end with some cute pictures - can you guess who the last picture is? See any resemblance? Baby K has similarities to all her siblings, but I think the brother in the last picture is the one she resembles the most.

Have a wonderful week - maybe I'll get on here one other day and post some fabulous crock pot dishes I made last week - I used the crockpot three times, and am using it again today. I do believe this will become my new best friend. As you can imagine, the time when dinner prep would normally happen is a tough time of day, as it is for many families. It sure is nice to have dinner just about ready when that hour rolls around!
God bless!

Jen

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.
