I've been lurking over at Rocks in My Dryer for sometime, and love reading what "Works for [Others] Wednesday! So today I decided to also jump in!
A great thing that has proven to work for me (and I kick myself on mornings I don't do this) is every night before bed, I run the dishwasher. The next morning I RACE the coffee maker and try to empty the dishwasher before the coffee is done. One thing I've discovered about myself is I have a real competitive side, and I actually try to make a race out of most chores around my home (works great with my preschooler too!). Also, I'm such a coffee junkie, that my reward for quickly emptying the dishwasher is a nice cup of coffee (or 2 or 3!) Then once I'm done with my coffee and my kids are done with breakfast - the dishwasher is all ready to start filling up with those dishes.
It works for me!
Blessings!

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.
Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.
Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Jen...the coffe/dishwasher race. I DO IT EVERY MORNING, TOO! Just discovered it this year...I hate it when I don't run the, okay when THE KIDS don't run the dishwasher at night, too (it's their job to rinse and load and get 'er running). We're soooo smart, aren't we?
I may have to try this. I hate emptying the dishwasher. If I don't do it in the morning, I try to make a phone call to a friend while I do it. I have so much fun talking and catching up that I don't even realize I've done the dreaded chore.
Susan: Yes we are smart! Whatever works right?
Nancy: I HATE emptying the dishwasher too. I actually prefer doing the dishes by hand, if that makes any sense at all - so odd. But, when it is emptied first thing, it makes for a cleaner kitchen all day long!
I have a one cup coffee maker. No matter how fast I go I doubt I could beat that thing! I'll give it a try though! (I do set a timer for 5 minutes, usually get it done before that goes off.)
How nice. Then no one has hurt feelings when YOU win! *grin*
As for me, my dishwasher is my husband and I don't drink coffee. I'll have to think of some fun way to put the dishes away after they've dried on the counter and in the sink. Er...I just put them away whether it's fun or not, cuz there's no room to do anything until the job is done!
